Wedding Guest Dress

Wedding Guest Dress

August 22, 2016
What you wear to a wedding depends on the type of event, whether it's casual or formal, indoor or outdoor, etc. I usually opt for a dress with a feminine silhouette that I will be able to use on other occasions. I can't stand having clothes on my closet that I never use.

The shoes depend on the location, for instance I've worn this dress with two different shoes: this rhinestone strappy sandals and also wedges for a wedding that took place on grass so that my heels wouldn't get stuck on every step.

This Claudie Pierlot dress is perfect to wear as a wedding attire; the color, fabric, spaghetti straps and scalloped bust make it sweet and feminine. It's lightweight and comfortable for dancing which are something you must consider before buying a dress for a summer wedding. I kept jewelry to a minimal with my pearl earrings and this bracelet and this necklace by Spanish jewelry brand Tous. The clutch is a favorite of mine that I got last year. I like it so much I  try to buy dresses that will match it so I can wear it to all sorts of formal events, I can't get enough of it! You can also see how I styled it with this white lace dress.

Stripes and Lace

Stripes and Lace

August 15, 2016
I discovered Claudie Pierlot when I moved to Madrid about two years ago. It is the “little sister” of two well-known French brands, Maje and Sandro. It's a bit more affordable but the quality is still amazing. I instantly became a huge fan of the line, the feminine and classy pieces match my style. The first piece I bought back then was this striped top with a bow which still remains a favorite of mine. Most of my recent purchases have been in their store including this lace trimmed top and striped pants and a beautiful soft pink dress with scalloped cleavage that I haven't posted yet.

There are two main reasons why I fell in love with this outfit. On the one hand it combines my favorite patterns: lace and stripes. On the other hand, it's made up of my favorite color combination: baby blue and white. Even my room is decorated in those colors!
Claudie Pierlot gives this classic top a feminine touch with a delicate lace underlayer. The outer tank is made of loose-fitting linen so it feels soft and airy on warm-weather days. The comfy cotton pants are soft and the fabric is really thin. Add a navy blazer and voilà! you are ready for work.

See you next Monday,

Irresistible Me Diamond Flat Iron

Irresistible Me Diamond Flat Iron

Irresistible Me Diamond hair styler straightener flat iron

If you follow the blog you already now that I have naturally curly hair and that I straighten it very often. For me it's easier to keep and lasts longer than curls, which in my case are ruined after sleeping even though the hair is still clean. In order to get it straight I often leave it to air dry first (if I have enough time, if not I blow dry it) so that I don't apply so much heat to it. Then I use a flat iron. Irresistible Me recently approached me and asked me to try their Diamond Hair Styler. The brand is also well-known for their hair extensions and hair-care products. When I first saw the box, I was impressed by the sleek packaging: an elegant black box with magnetic closing that you can use to store the hair straightener.

Here's what I liked about it:

  • You can adjust the temperature which is great because many flat irons don't allow you to do that. It also has a display where you can see the temperature which can go up to 450F/230C.
  • It automatically changes the temperature display to Celsius or Fahrenheit, depending on the supplied voltage, how smart is that?
  • It's light which is great if you want to take it as a travel companion.
  • It has a 360 swivel cord.
  • It heats up fast and turns off automatically.
  • It has a thumb print and cool tips for a steady grip and to avoid burning your fingers.
  • Buttons are on the inside so you won't press them accidentally.
  • The manual recommends what temperature to use depending on your hair type. I found this really useful and interesting. I always thought it was the same for any type of hair! Since mine is thin, the recommendation is to use heat setting 1 (around 150ºC/300ºF).

So that's it for the advantages, let's see the results. As I said my hair is thin, really curly and it's also shoulder length. I don't dye it but I get balayage and highlights about 3 times a year. I used the Irresistible Me hair straightener after letting it air dry. Then I combed it to soften the curls and started working on it. I was surprised that I only needed one pass to get it straight (with the recommended heat setting 1).

I was really happy with the result because my hair looks shinny after using it and it didn't take much effort to straighten it. So, I definitely recommend it and if you're on the hunt for a good value hair straightener.
You can buy the Irresistible Me Diamond Flat Iron online for $104 (it's on sale!). Irresistible Me ships worldwide. However, you will need an adapter for the plug if you live outside the US.

Watermelon Pizza

Watermelon Pizza

watermelon pizza

I've never met a dessert I didn't like. Most desserts are -unfortunately- not really healthy, so the best healthy option for those of us with a sweet tooth is fruit. This watermelon pizza is the perfect summer snack/dessert: it's healthy, refreshing and almost too pretty to eat it!

watermelon pizza

I believe that first impressions are important in every aspect of life and food is no exception. Arranging this fruit salad in the shape of a pizza makes a huge difference if you are presenting it to guests at home. They will fall in love with it!

SHOPPING LIST

1 thick watermelon slice
fresh berries, for garnish
slices of kiwi, for garnish
slices of canned peach in syrup, for garnish
powdered sugar (optional)

DIRECTIONS

Cut a thick slice of watermelon with a long serrated knife. I advice you to buy half instead of a whole one because this way you'll have a clean cut to put on top. Cutting it is tricky so leave that side on the bottom because it won't be as perfect as the other one.

Slice the watermelon into 8 pieces in the shape of pizza slices, top them with assorted fruits. This recipe includes the ones I've chosen but there's no right or wrong here so just pick the ones you like the most. You can use many other things: cherries, honey & ricotta, nuts, granola, seeds...whatever you crave!

Greek Islands Packing List

Greek Islands Packing List

greek islands packing list

You know I rarely post on Thursdays. However, I've started planning my summer trip to the Greek islands so I thought I'd give you a peek into the things I'm packing. Even though I'm a just-in-case packer, I try to keep my luggage as light as possible. I also take with me cute and comfortable pieces that will allow me to walk around the sites for hours without looking like a total tourist. The first thing I always do before travelling to a new destination is research. I create a secret Pinterest board where I pin all useful information that I can find including photography and outfit inspiration. Then I create an outfit spreadsheet to decide what I'm going to wear every day. For Greece I'm packing a lot of blue and white to blend in with the surroundings.

Dresses: my favorite piece all year round. They can be worn all day long, you just need to switch your accessories if you are going to a fancy place for dinner. My 4 favorite styles are off-the-shoulder, embroidered, lace and gingham.

Shoes: keep it as comfy as possible. Something I've learnt from experience is to never take new shoes on vacation, you don't know how they are going to work for you. I've got endless stories of blisters and nasty cuts. During my research I've found out that the streets in the Greek islands are frequently made up of cobblestones and there are many stairs so flat sandals or espadrilles are advisable. However, I never forget to pack a pair of strappy high-heeled sandals just in case!

Bags: a beach tote, a straw basket, a crossbody bag and a clutch. I take all four in neutral colors so they'll work with every outfit (same thing goes for the shoes).

Tops & shorts: cute tops and tees are always a wise choice. I pair them with denim shorts or scalloped ones if I'm looking for something more formal. Top #3 (long sleeve and stripes) is the cutest thing ever, the back is made up of a string of bows, see it here.

Cover-ups: these Star Mela cuties double up as dresses or beach cover-ups. So if one day we decide to skip the beach I'll still be properly dressed to explore the town.

Sunscreen and moisturizers: you know how important it is to protect your skin from the sun. After sunbathing keep your skin moisturized with these creams from La Mer and Caudalie. I've also added a self-tanner from Clinique. Personally I'm not a fan of tanning products and I've never tried one but I've suggested this one from Clinique because you know I'm a huge fan of their products and I know they never disappoint.

Swuimsuits, beach towels and hats: I've suggested some swimsuits from Kate Spade because I'm completely obsessed with the bow tops.

Duffel bags and suitcases: I always carry one of each if I'm away for a week. In my duffel bag I carry toiletries and other essentials that are allowed in cabin. Also some clothes in case the luggage is delayed.

Well, I think I've covered pretty much everything. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have so don't hesitate to leave one on the comments below.
